A subtle tension. The duality between content and message. The emergence of a paradox. This is what one encounters when exploring the work of Aleksandar Avramovic, the man behind the Absent Artist project.

EN - A unique, often ironic way of seeing the world that surrounds us, while refusing to ever offer an easy conclusion. The will to encourage the viewers to reflect and to question, without ever imposing anything. To confront them with preconceived notions and social constructs we take for granted too often, and to play with them. Sometimes unintentionally.

Above all, the desire to step back and let the message, the ink, engage with the observer. To avoid any disruption with the connection that forms between the eye and the work: here is the primary desire of Aleksandar Avramovic, alias Absent Artist. A conscious, almost radical choice: to make everything about himself disappear… except his initials, our sole cardinal points in this artistic unknown.

Each piece of work symbolises, above all, the importance of the present, of the moment. The intention is clear: to freeze these fleeting moments, these scenes of everyday life, whilst realising that they slip through our fingers, vanishing before we can truly capture them. What remains is the wonder, sometimes mundane, of these suspended moments, vague in their temporality but concrete in the emotions they evoke.

Aleksandar Avramovic’s work finds its origin in a real, tangible trace. Whether they are film clips, personal photographs or archive images, the process is systematic: to start from a source and transform an idea into an image, letting things come to him. As the drawing progresses, the hand loosens, the themes naturally take shape, often unconsciously, uncontrollably. Little by little, the drawing takes shape and imposes itself on the artist, despite himself.

Through Aleksandar Avramovic’s work, insignificant, often overlooked details take the main stage. His work invites the viewer to linger over a gesture, a glance, the expression on a face. A collection of drawings that appear realistic at first glance, yet plunge the observer into a world without real rules, on the border between the absurd and the fantastical, unexpected and delightful.

The frozen moments Absent Artist shares with us are, nevertheless, extremely vivid. Perhaps precisely because they remain fleeting and implied. Untethered to time, Aleksandar Avramovic’s work transcends eras, yet remains more relevant than ever. Only its interpretation changes.
